This offering from Karla Portillo’s Finca Planeta Verde is a step in a new direction for us here at Press. Generally we exclusively roast 100% arabica coffees, however after tasting this microlot we couldn’t keep our hands off of it. Karla, after taking over her family farm, decided to plant Icatú– a Brazilian hybrid of robusta and bourbon parentage– for both its disease resistance and cup quality. The earthiness of the green is complimented by a honey processing method, and when brewed this crop offers crisp apple juice acidity with a lighter body full of french toast, pecan and bakers chocolate notes.
